Sad White Babies With Mean Feminist Mommies

The Atlantic is reviving the tired feminist-baiting question “can women have it all.” Le sigh. In celebration of this backlashtastic event, I’ve compiled some of my favorite images that are often the art in these kinds of articles: The mean/frazzled/distracted working white mom (because WOC don’t exist in this narrative) who has been fooled into thinking she can have it all by feminism. Good times.

Note: I haven’t read the piece (it’s not out yet) and for all I know is a scorchingly awesome piece of feminist writing. But the headline/art/cover is just too awful and (knowingly) plays into the anti-feminist cliche the search for work/life balance is greedily trying to have “it all.”

Their lives would be so much easier if engineers just created babies with pre-installed blackberries. And a silent mode.

Being an opponent of π is like being an opponent of diatomic oxygen. *facepalm*

Gotta disagree on this one. There are a lot of good reasons to swap out $$2\pi$$ with $$\tau.$$ By getting rid of that 2, you can simplify a LOT of mathematical equations. The horse’s mouth is here: http://tauday.com.

My favorite is how the fourier transform is simplified. If you’ve ever done line after line after line of those things, even getting rid of a single character is a godsend.

Of course, Euler’s identity is no longer:

$$e^{\pi i} + 1 = 0$$

Instead it becomes:

$$e^{\tau i} = 1$$

and so we lose the additive identity, but we can’t have everything.
